Engaging with Others

"Working in constructive partnerships to deliver the best outcome for the Citizen"

The new NHS in Wales is designed upon the premise of co-operation, collaboration and partnership working. This fundamental principle is demonstrated throughout the new governance and accountability arrangements, for example:

  • the appointment of key partners (Local Government, the Third Sector and Trade Unions) as Independent Members of the governing Boards of NHS bodies;
  • the introduction of new Advisory Groups providing a clear voice for all those with an interest in the work of the NHS - a Stakeholder Reference Group, a Professional Forum and a Local Partnership Forum;
  • the ongoing development of the relationships between the NHS and those with whom they contract to provide clinical services - including primary care and third sector providers to realise stronger partnerships and more consistent clinical engagement and involvement in the development and delivery of high quality services across communities.

Long established arrangements, such as the operation of Community Health Councils and the duty to work in partnership in developing key strategies and plans, e.g., Health, Social Care and Well Being Strategy are continuing and are also being developed further.

For all NHS bodies in Wales, their success will be judged upon how well they work with others to deliver for their patients and wider citizens.

These pages will provide further advice and guidance on how NHS bodies in Wales engage with and work together with others.
